
Author, Aaron Anwar Smith speaks from personal experience, historical perspective, and the expressed opinions of others when referring to the current state of affairs between African American men and women. As a child of divorce and as an unmarried man, Aaron knows first-hand how difficult single living can be, and how easy it is to give into disgruntled feelings of distrust and affliction. Issues of illegitimacy, misrepresentation, and relationship failure have all fueled his desire to fight for a greater sense of enlightenment for his people, in presentation of what is true; Good Black men and their desire for relationships are not extinct.

“There was once a time when I stood in the background watching others overlook and demean my existence, along with the positive realities of other Black men," says Smith. "Then one day, something happened. I opened my mouth and created a new conversation about what really goes on from the eyes of good Black men and Women.” “When we focus on reality and set emotion aside, we then create the opportunity to understand and repair.”
With the male to female ratio, and the high percentage of unmarried Black men and women, Aaron’s latest book Is There Really a Shortage of Good Black Men? Serves as a platform to increase discussions and awareness over what lies dormant, amid false assumptions, myths, and subconscious baggage forming in the minds of African American Men and women.
As the premier book of Smith’s career, Is There Really a Shortage of Good Black Men?: The Movement to Uplift and Empower the Relationships Between African American Men and Women, the author delivers realistic, straightforward insight into importance of understanding and recognizing the truth about why our relationships suffer and how we can repair them together. The book goes on to ignite motivation toward the creation of introspective strategies and self progressive methods for both women and men to use in regard to single living and relationship development.
According to Smith, "The 3 keys for successful relationship: Communication, Consideration, and Honesty,” are all invincible attributes that should be used to identify characteristics and values of the person you are pursuing or being pursued by. Is There Really a Shortage of Good Black Men? also shares past experiences of the author and several others who have witnessed the toils of dating and relationships. “I wanted to create the opportunity to express the depth of our problems and provide solutions and techniques that work to create and maintain relationships between good Black men and women,” says Aaron.
